Lecture

2014 Ann Lewis AO Memorial Address
– Richard Long

‘You could say that my work is also a balance between the patterns of nature and the formalism of human, abstract ideas like lines and circles. It is where my human characteristics meet the natural forces and patterns of the world..’
Richard Long

The MCA presents pioneering conceptual artist Richard Long in conversation with MCA Director, Elizabeth Ann Macgregor OBE. Hear about Long’s deep connection with the land informs his large-scale works and how he merges natural materials with painting and photography.

Watch Long in this newly commissioned short film shot at Frieze Masters 2013 re-creating his monumental work Muddy Water Circle here.

This project has been supported by the Australian Government through Australia Council for the Arts, its arts funding and advisory body and Garvan Institute.
