Primavera 1995: Young Australian Artists

Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (MCA)

Duration

01 Sep 1995 to 26 Nov 1995

Artists

Stephen Bram, Vicente Butron, Bronwyn Clarke-Coolee, ADS Donaldson, Anne Marie May, Kerrie Poliness, Elizabeth Pulie

Curator:

Sue Cramer

about the exhibition

Sue Cramer curated Primavera 1995, selecting works which looked at painting, objecthood and abstraction, explored in different ways and with varying degrees of emphasis. Strong visual and conceptual correspondences occurred between the works, creating a dynamic and open dialogue around key elements such as geometry, pattern, colour, decoration, gesture, material and structure.

Primavera is the Museum’s annual exhibition of Australian artists aged 35 years and under. Since 1992, the series has showcased the works of artists in the early stages of their career, many of whom have gone on to exhibit nationally and internationally.

Primavera was initiated in 1992 by Dr Edward Jackson AM and Mrs Cynthia Jackson AM and their family in memory of their daughter and sister Belinda, a talented jeweller who died at the age of 29.
