about the exhibition

A multiple is an art object produced in a limited (or sometimes unlimited) edition. Many artists produce multiples in order to distribute their work more widely and democratically than is possible with one-off works of art. Multiples often challenge the traditional boundaries of art by employing modern manufacturing techniques.

International Multiples highlighted the widespread interest by artists in making multiples during the 1990s. The exhibition included work in multiples by prominent international and Australian artists from the MCA Collections. Among the works shown were records and CDs made by visual artists.
