News – MCA ARTBAR wins 2012 SMAC Award for Best Arts Event

Posted on Jan. 18, 2013 in News.

The Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (MCA) is delighted to announce that MCA ARTBAR driven by AUDI was given the seal of approval by Sydney’s top creative movers and shakers last night, winning Best Arts Event category at the 2012 FBi Radio SMAC Awards held at Carriageworks.

MCA ARTBAR was introduced to the public in May 2012 and described as Sydney’s new monthly afterhours contemporary art social happening produced by the art world’s freshest, most exciting creative minds, to celebrate Art.

In only eight months it has carved out a reputation as the go-to event on the last Friday of every month. With guest curators bringing a unique vision to each event, no two ARTBARs are the same.

MCA ARTBAR Coordinator Kym Lenoble said: ‘It is exciting that we have been able to bring this project to life as part of the relaunch of the MCA. In 2012, there were over 80 artists, DJs, performers, VJs, and so many more involved in ARTBAR. It is great to be recognised by FBi Radio and Sydney with only seven events under our belt. There will be lots of new surprises and adventures in 2013.’

SMAC stands for Sydney’s Music, Arts and Culture. Established in 2008, the SMAC Awards are the city’s annual awards, given to the artists, museums, venues, promoters, creators and culture makers who keep Sydney’s creative heart beating. They exist to award originality, creativity and innovation.
